About

Dale profile photo.jpg

Dale Kotengo is a visual artist who had a natural inclination to the creative world since childhood. Under his mother's mentorship and as early as 13 years, he found a passion for the arts picking up the occasional brush and pencil with the hope to live up to his Mothers artistic expertise and later on took up graphics design after high school.

He started off his career as a stage manager and later as a set builder in theater under Heartstrings Kenya and curved out an early legacy in this field working mostly at the Alliance Francaise de Nairobi and the Kenya National Theater.

He then moved on to film where he moved up departments from Props Master to Set Designer to Art Director and eventually Production Designer. At this point in his career, he decided to go back to his studio to tell his own stories through his art after dedicating 15 years in film. A leap of faith driven by a passion to overcome fears drew up some of his earliest works as a full time artist, independent of film.

Surrealistic Expressionism and Acrylics/Mixed media on canvas is mostly his style and medium, often depicting a Congress of mind, body and spirit and consciousness with the objects of planetary lifeforms in his themes. The advocacy of women empowerment is also evident in his work. A tribute to his earlier day's of mentorship from his own mother

Despite tending to the visual artist on a professional level, Dale Kotengo continues to venture into other forms of art like installations, set designing and sometimes interior designing. He plans to start a collection of sculptures as well that will carry forward some of the themes his paintings bare. This is a venture he plans to undertake in the not so distant future.
